TV
makers improve the quality of image representation every year, as well
as their benefits and services, but the interesting thing about this
brake-free race is to evolve and coexist with different technologies.
There is no time to breathe in this particular competition
Yes,
we talk about the recurrent dispute between OLED and LCD TVs. The first
ones are born to be the future of technology that lives on our fabrics,
while the second ones do not stop moving forward to keep up the level -
even improve it in some aspects -, something to emphasize considering
that it is a technology that carries many More years in the market.
Manufacturers like LG operate in both scenarios.
Higher quality color and better viewing angles, these are the two aspects that enhance Nano Cell technology We
are not going to extend too much in this fight, what we want is to help
you understand how LG gets its LED TVs to reach levels unthinkable of
quality until a few years ago. There are many important ingredients in
the recipe, but we can ensure that the key in this latest generation is
in Nano Cell technology.
Master the color space
Before
getting to know the technology itself, we would like to talk about
color. It is easy to get carried away by the most nominated, or
fashionable in the season, but the quality of reproduction of the color
is an aspect that we should take more into account.
The
human eye interprets the brightest colors as brightest: the better we
see the red / blue / green, the more attractive and realistic the scene
will be. Representing them and mixing them with quality on a TV is as
important as having more resolution or drawing speed.
That's
why manufacturers are looking for mechanisms and new technologies that
improve what is considered as WCG, in English, the acronyms of Wide
Color Gamut. We could say that meeting WCG is a way to make sure that
our television uses the widest color palette in the industry, created
through the three primary colors.
Discovering Nano Cell
It
can be difficult to understand what Nano Cell is, also find information
that explains it to us, that is why we are going to start by making
clear its objectives: to represent a space of color superior to
conventional television, while we can do it without losing quality in
the different viewing angles
Based
on its highest quality IPS panels, LG introduces a layer with an
absorbent material capable of blocking only the wavelengths of light
between the red and green filters, something that conventional systems
do not achieve, as you can see in the next graph:
What
is achieved by eliminating that narrow part of the spectrum? It
prevents desaturation from occurring, an effect we could describe as
green pixels comming reds or vice versa. What is needed is that the
primary colors are shown with the highest possible quality.
The
researchers say that blocking that area is the way to get a wider
palette of colors. It is also important to know that to draw the RGB
pixels, a rear light is used that is not perfectly white, rather it
tends to blue, and that also creates impurities that can be regulated
with Nano Cell.
The
use of the designation "Nano" is due to the thickness of the elements
of the absorbent material used, of 1 nanometer. The particles used by
the competition are in thicknesses around 3 and 6 nanometers; This
difference in size is what gets the colors in LG still looking at very
wide angles.
The
said particles are arranged in a homogeneous manner along a layer that
occupies the entire panel, you can see an example in the following
image:
Nano
Cell technology absorbs light interference and improves the purity of
the primary colors, increasing the spectrum that can be drawn on the
fabrics
Color in viewing angles
It is very difficult that in real situations we are all the members of the house watching the television in a central way, which is why it is so important that the color quality is maintained at the maximum possible angle of vision. LG ensures that up to 179 degrees is possible with its technology.
It
is interesting to add that the use of a system such as Nano Cell is not
accompanied by collateral problems in aspects such as design or
brightness: televisions remain just as thin or more, a sign of identity
in LG. We can find five models ranging from 49 to 75 inches.
Nano Cell trims the reflection of light on the television by 30%, thus offering better visibility in rooms with lots of lighting
Full Array Dimming with Nano Cell
With
respect to the brightness capability, the filter added by Nano Cell
does not affect, we still have the best levels of brightness and
contrast, thanks in part to the use of the Full Array Dimming system,
much more localized and present in LG SUPER UHD Nano models Cell up to
65 inches.
We
have to know that the LCD panels need a rear illumination to give life
to its pixels, the more light points the panel covers, the better the
quality in details and contrast.
The
most advanced lighting system by number of points and the ability to
manage them is the Full Array Dimming of LG. Here we can see how it
acts:
